EIGHTH DAY SYMPOSIUM n. A mere christian gathering for the renewal of culture through the stimulation of heart & mind.
ICONOGRAPHY WORKSHOP Theory and Practice This condensed workshop for beginners, or anyone with prior experience, is an introduction to the theology and the practice of writing an icon. We will work from a simple icon of an Archangel, using egg tempera and gold leaf on prepared panels. Cost of the workshop includes materials. Lunch will be provided. Students may work at their own pace. The studio will be open beyond class times for you to continue working. The workshop schedule is as follows: SUNDAY, JANUARY 27 2 - 5 p.m. Introduction: The Ladder of Iconography Begin drawing from the prototype Begin scribing and gilding the halo MON-WED, JANUARY 28-30 8:30 a.m. Third Hour Prayer 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. Theory and Demonstration of Steps 12 p.m. Sixth Hour Prayer and Lunch 12:30 - 5 p.m. Work with Instructor’s Assistance

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR Anne E. Emmons is a studio artist, a student and instructor of iconography, and a college art instructor of painting, drawing, and art history in Denver, CO. She has studied the Byzantine method of iconography since 2006, with the Prosopon School of iconology, and with iconographers around the country. Her intensive MFA studio project, “Incomplete icons of Personhood,” (completed in 2010) merged the sacred tradition of iconography with her practice as a contemporary painter. Anne has presented lectures and workshops on art, the theology of beauty in worship and iconography in Denver, CO, Notre Dame, IN, Wichita, KS, and Tulsa, OK.
